Ocean Heights is built directly into the historic City wall of Gibraltar. It is a concrete curved building, which depicts the 1960's-70's architecture. A prefabricated building which was originally built as a hotel. There is a great video on YouTube 'Hotel for Gibraltar (1964) Pathe, which is very interesting to watch. When the border between Spain and Gibraltar closed the building was converted into apartments. This makes it quite a quirky building, with remnants of the Hotel history being apparent in certain areas. The first floor (now duplex apartments), was the dining terrace and restaurant, with the kitchens and laundry on the opposite side. Where Herald Travel's office is located on the terrace towards the swimming pool, apparently this used to be a nightclub/piano bar. The building is iconic, and is a fantastic example of the era, however, although we keep our managed apartments to a good basic standard, the building is getting on a bit and looks like she could do with a face lift both externally and internally as the old girl is getting a bit shabby.
Ocean Heights has an outside unheated swimming pool, accessed via the first floor terrace. This is usually open between 9am-6/8pm depending on the season and maintenance requirements (Herald Travel do not guarantee the pool will be open). There are two passenger lifts at the front of the building to all floors (8 in total). There is also a service lift (entrance in Queensway). There are several small retail outlets under and next to the building, these include, tobacconists, sandwich outlet, Cyber café, Noodle take away, Moroccan take away, green grocery and electrical shop.
On the first floor terrace of Ocean Heights, there is Herald Travel office and Suds Laundry, who offer serviced washes.
